Meet J490: Apple’s Smart-Home Tablet Coming in 2025

Apple is working on a new project AI-powered wall tablet, called J490, expected to launch date is March 2025. It’s basically a central hub for your smart home—letting you control devices, hop on FaceTime calls, and ask Siri for help, all with just your voice.

It’s similar to Amazon’s Echo Show 8 and Google’s Nest Hub but with a sleek 6-inch screen and an interface inspired by the Apple Watch and iPhone StandBy mode. It’s designed to make managing your smart-home easier and more intuitive.

The tablet will come in silver and black, with a standard version priced to compete with the Echo Show and Nest Hub Max. There could also be a high-end version with a robotic screen that might cost up to $1,000. It will run on a new OS called Pebble, which adjusts based on how close you are to it, and will include features like camera alerts and intercom.

Apple has also been expanding its R&D efforts in India through a new subsidiary focused on hardware engineering. While nothing’s confirmed yet, reports suggest the tablet could be announced in early 2025.
